On 15 March in Georgia, the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis visited the Abkhazian Culture and Youth Centre in Tbilisi and presented a computer.
“I am very excited that the centre carries out such important activities and pays so much attention to foster the Abkhazian culture. These invisible baby steps are very important for the reconciliation of the nations, therefore, they are supported and encouraged in every way,” the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office said after visiting the Culture and Youth Centre. The Minister was acquainted with the centre’s activities and the children performed Georgian and Abkhazian folk songs.
The Minister’s gift will help the centre’s pupils to record their own songs, to produce audio CDs and in other ways to popularize their creative work.
The Abkhazian Culture and Youth Centre “Sukhumi” was opened in 2006. Already the third generation of refugees from Abkhazia learns songs and dances here. They are the children whose grandparents had to flee from Abkhazia during the civil war in 1993. The centre teaches folk, pop and jazz music, also Abkhazian folk dances and songs.
Foreign Minister A.Ažubalis will stay in Georgia until 17 March. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office will continue his visit to South Caucasus and will travel to Armenia.
