In discussions with Foreign Ministers of the EU and the Indo-Pacific region, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis highlights the development of sustainable connectivity infrastructure in the region
On 22 February in Paris, France, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis took part in the Ministerial Forum for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, which was organised by the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The event brought together Foreign Ministers of the EU member states and some 30 countries in the Indo-Pacific region. It offered an opportunity to showcase the European Union strategy for the region and to develop tangible projects in this regard.
Foreign Ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation to consolidate peace, stability and prosperity in the region, reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values and a rules-based global order, as well as agreed to expand the scope of trade, investment and development cooperation on the basis of regional partnerships.
Landsbergis spoke at the roundtable on connectivity and digital technology issues, advocating for a sustainable and responsible connectivity infrastructure.
“Sustainable connectivity is not possible without resilient supply chains or fair trade rules that leave no room for economic pressure for political purposes. Sustainable connectivity is enabled by the digital transformation of the economy, but it has to meet high technological and ethical standards, and must be protected against cyber-attack. Lithuania can offer solutions to the countries in the region in the fields of information technology, cybersecurity, FinTech and other areas. We already works with our partners in Asia," said Landsbergis. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also mentioned the recent launch of the Australian-Lithuanian Cyber Research Network by Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) and Australia's Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
