In Brussels, Lithuanian Foreign Minister and his EU counterparts to discuss situation in Ukraine

On 17 March in Brussels the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will take part in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council.  EU Foreign Ministers will discuss Eastern Partnership, particular attention will be given to  the situation in Ukraine.

Discussions on Geneva II negotiations and the conflict in Syria as well as its impact on the region, especially on Lebanon and Iraq are foreseen. The EU Foreign Ministers will also discuss the Middle East peace process and the preparations for the next EU-Africa Summit to be held on 2-3 April in Brussels. The Council’s agenda also includes the issue on Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will present the results of her visit to Sarajevo that  took place on 12 March. At lunch together with the EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger the EU Foreign Ministers will have discussion on energy diplomacy.

The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vytautas Leškevičius will participate in the meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels on 18 March.

At the meeting, the European Affairs Ministers will discuss preparations for the upcoming the European Council meeting of 20-21 March, which will focus on measures to promote the EU’s economic growth, competitiveness, job creation, industrial competitiveness, the Strategy for a 2030 climate and energy policy, the relations between the European Union and Africa, as well as the situation in Ukraine.

At the Council meeting, the European Commission will present its Communication on safeguarding the rule of law. The Greek Presidency of the EU Council will present a summary report on economic policy coordination in the EU in 2014.
