IN BERLIN, BALTIC-GERMAN MFA CONSULTATIONS FOCUS ON EU'S KEY FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES
On May 31-June 1 in Berlin, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas took part in the annual consultations of political directors from Baltic and German foreign ministries, where EU’s key foreign policy issues, such as relations with EU’s neighbours, the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and Iran, were discussed.
At the meeting, political directors focused on relations with EU’s Eastern neighbours – Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia – and discussed European Neighbourhood Policy.Political directors also discussed such important global policy issues, as the Middle East peace process, situation in the EU’s Southern neighbourhood and Iran. They also spoke about security policy issues and the situation in the Western Balkans.
E.Bajarūnas presented Lithuania’s ongoing Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Political directors discussed the traditional four-party foreign ministers meeting that will be held later this year.
According to E.Bajarūnas, Lithuania appreciates the Baltic-German strategic dialogue very much.
In Berlin, the Lithuanian diplomat also met and discussed current foreign policy issues with Foreign Policy Advisor to Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) Parliamentary Group in Bundestag Hans-Joachim Falenski and with experts on the EU’s Eastern neighbourhood from Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.
