IN BEIJING LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSSED BILATERAL RELATIONS WITH CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER
On 14 November Lithuanian Ambassador to China Rokas Bernotas met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Li Zhaoxing.
Chinese Foreign Minister congratulated Mr Bernotas on appointment as Ambassador and wishing him every success in his work underlined that much is to be done for strengthening cooperation in political, economic, science and technology, exchange, transport, cultural, education and sports spheres, for enhancing cooperation between parliaments, municipalities of Lithuanian and Chinese twin towns, development of relations between ordinary people.
According to Minister Li Zhaoxing, China is glad that a famous Lithuanian basketball specialist Jonas Kazlauskas coaches Chinese national basketball team.
Lithuanian Ambassador noticed that for 15 years Lithuania and China have maintained high level of cooperation in different areas: many visits of high officials have been organized, state visit of Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus in autumn 2006 and visit of the Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin to Lithuania have been remarkable success, 13 agreements have been signed, bilateral trade has constantly increased.
Ambassador Bernotas agreed that there is still considerable room for strengthening partnership in political, economic, culture, sports and education spheres, promotion of cooperation in transport, environment protection, agriculture, high technology development areas.
