In a meeting with the Federal Minister for Europe of Austria, Vice-Minister Mitkus emphasized the importance of Ukraine in the EU's enlargement process
On 17 November in Brussels, in the margins of the General Affairs Council of the European Union the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus met with Claudia Plakolm, Federal Minister for Europe of Austria. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and items on the EU agenda.
During the meeting, the Vice-Minister Mitkus also emphasized that Ukraine's integration into the European Union was crucial for the security and well-being of both Ukraine and the EU as a whole.
"Ukraine's progress in EU accession negotiations needs to be as fast as possible. The progress of Ukraine's reforms is significant even in the context of difficult conditions due to the ongoing Russian aggression. Such achievements of Ukraine must also be reflected in the negotiation process", said Mitkus.
When speaking about the EU's new Multiannual Financial Framework, Mitkus stressed the need for this programme to provide targeted funds to meet the economic, social, and security needs of the EU's eastern border regions. Mitkus also informed his Austrian counterpart about Belarusian hybrid attacks against Lithuania and the situation of transport carriers.
