In a meeting with the Ambassador of Uganda, Vice-Minister Vidmantas Verbickas discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and the development of partnership
On November 19, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to Lithuania, Margaret Mutembeya Otteskov.
The Vice-Minister underlined the importance of the meeting - the appointment of the Ambassador marks a new stage in relations between Lithuania and Uganda by establishing an official diplomatic representation.
The meeting focused on the possibilities of strengthening bilateral relations and the development of a partnership in the fields of economy, education, and cooperation in international organizations. The Ambassador shared plans to establish an Honorary Consulate in Lithuania. Both sides expressed support to further steps to promote academic exchanges.
During the meeting, the Russian aggression against Ukraine was also discussed. The Vice-Minister Verbickas emphasized the need to defend international law and the principles of international relations enshrined therein.
Lithuania and Uganda established diplomatic relations in 2012. Uganda is currently chairing the Non-Aligned Movement. Margaret Mutembeya Otteskov, who resides in Copenhagen, is Uganda's first Ambassador accredited to Lithuania.
