IN A MEETING WITH NATO SECRETARY GENERAL LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY SECURITY
On 19 January in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis took part in a meeting of Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
The head of NATO secretariat, who pays an official visit to Lithuania, also met with the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and the leaders of Lithuanian Seimas.
During the meetings current issues of NATO collective defense policy and NATO air policing mission, which is of special importance for Lithuania, as well as cooperation in implementing the International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan were discussed.
A.Ažubalis stressed the importance of the new challenges in NATO strategy such as ensuring energy security.
“Energy security in military operations is new, but very important field of NATO activities. Energy Security Center in Vilnius is a concrete contribution of Lithuania to the area of NATO’s Smart Defense,” the Minister said.
