IMPORTANT EU ISSUES WERE DISCUSSED WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CZECH EU PRESIDENCY

On 14 April, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas received members from the Senate (the upper chamber of the Parliament) of the Czech Republic and presented Lithuania’s position regarding key issues on the European agenda. During the meeting, most of the attention was dedicated to the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative, the situation in Georgia and Belarus, the EU’s relations with Russia.

Possibilities for the EU member states to cooperate in seeking for the evaluation of crimes of the totalitarian regimes at the EU level were also discussed.

“This year it is important not only to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, but also to mark the 70th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact at the EU level,” indicated Minister V.Ušackas.

Minister V.Ušackas expressed support to the priorities of the Czech EU Presidency and thanked for its active role in solving energy security issues. Minister also thanked the Czech Republic for a planned air police mission of the Czech military air forces in Zokniai as of May.

The delegation of the Committee on EU Affairs of the Senate of the Czech Republic, which is currently holding the EU Presidency, is visiting Vilnius at the invitation of the Committee on European Affairs of the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania. In Vilnius, the delegation is also meeting with the representatives from the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance, members of the Committee on European Affairs of the Seimas.
