GEORGIA THANKS LITHUANIA FOR ITS SUPPORT
On 21 November, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas received a letter from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili, who thanks the Head of Lithuanian diplomacy and Lithuanian Government for Lithuania’s continuous support to Georgia.
G.Bezhuashvili also welcomed Lithuania’s initiative to send a media expert to Georgia, who would observe the coverage of Georgia’s presidential elections in the media. It is trusted that the participation of the Lithuanian expert would also contribute to Georgia’s objectives of embedding the principle of media self-regulation.
“The experience, which Lithuania could share with Georgia, is very valuable to us in the process of embedding the principle of media self-regulation that would help us to form free and objective media, and to consolidate democracy,” wrote Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
G.Bezhuashvili also emphasized that the support from such a true partner strengthened Georgia’s confidence in the country’s possibilities to overcome the greatest challenges and implement reforms successfully.
Lithuania delegated Executive Director of Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania Nerijus Maliukevičius to Georgia.
On 22 November, a meeting of the ambassadors of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union Member States with Georgia’s opposition and representatives of the Government took place, during which expert of Lithuanian media N.Maliukevičius was also introduced to the participants.
