Gabrielius Landsbergis and the Chair of the UK Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee discussed the most pressing foreign policy issues
On 19 August, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis had a meeting with Tom Tugendhat, Chair of the United Kingdom (UK) Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee and discussed the situation in Afghanistan, relations with China and illegal migration.
“Even though the flows of irregular migrants attempting to cross the Lithuania-Belarus border have been managed thanks to excellent work of competent Lithuanian authorities, the tense geopolitical situation, particularly with the crisis in Afghanistan, suggests that Lithuania should not relax. Lithuania needs further humanitarian and technical support for ensuring refugees’ welfare and for strengthening border control,” Gabrielius Landsbergis said.
Mr Minister thanked the United Kingdom for solidarity and fantastic practical cooperation.
Referring to relations with China, Mr Minister noted that Lithuania continued to follow One China policy. “Lithuania, as well as other EU and world countries, is interested in developing economic relations with Taiwan, which is nothing new or extraordinary and does not go contrary to international commitments vis-à-vis China,” he said.
