On 4 July, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis met with Polish Foreign Secretary Adam Daniel Rotfeld.
Minister Valionis and Secretary Rotfeld evaluated positively the bilateral cooperation in the sphere of defence. They noted that both countries implemented consistently their foreign policy goals, i.e. the membership in the EU and NATO. The Chief of Lithuanian Diplomacy and the Polish Foreign Secretary stressed the necessity to discuss the future cooperation plans and considered a possibility to hold consultations on the level of national coordinators.
The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs also underlined the importance of joint infrastructural projects. He named the letter by Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas and Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller to President of the European Commission Romano Prodi, in which they urged to speed up the implementation of the Lithuanian-Polish electric power systems merging project, as a successful example of activity coordination.
Minister Valionis noted that it would be advisable for the Prime Ministers of both countries to apply to the European Commission by a common letter and ask for support in implementing the joint projects of transport infrastructure.
