Fourth Lithuania-Pakistan political consultations held in Islamabad

The fourth bilateral political consultations between the Lithuanian and Pakistani Foreign Ministries were held on 16-17 April in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The consultations focused on cooperation and prospects for cooperation in the political, economic, cultural, scientific and consular fields, and within international organisations.

The delegation was led by the Director of the Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Ina Marčiulionytė. The Pakistani side was led by Nadeem Riyaz, Additional Secretary for Europe in Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

After the consultations, the Lithuanian delegation met with members of the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representing various areas of Pakistan’s business and crafts. They presented a programme promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Pakistan, took interest in the establishment of contacts with Lithuanian entrepreneurs, possibilities to attend management and professional courses in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian delegation also met with the Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs Asmat Nawaz, who is responsible for economic relations. The meeting discussed the potential for cooperation between Lithuania and Pakistan in the fields of trade, investment and transport, prospects for signing special treaties. The participants of the meeting identified areas of common interest. They welcomed strengthening economic ties between Lithuania and Pakistan.

At the end of the visit, the head of the Lithuanian delegation I.Marčiulionytė delivered a lecture on Lithuania to Pakistan’s young diplomats at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad.
