FORMER LITHUANIAN PRESIDENT ACCEPTS PROPOSAL TO BECOME UNESCO GOOD WILL AMBASSADOR

UNESCO Secretary General Koichiro Matsuura proposed Valdas Adamkus, who has finished his term of office as President of the Republic of Lithuania, to take the post of UNESCO Ambassador of Good Will for the Knowledge Society. In the field of knowledge society, UNESCO is busy promoting the Internet, founding community Internet centres, modernising libraries and archives, developing the e-government, implementing information technologies in education, woman-and-child training institutions and decision-making structures. Until now, the honorary title of UNESCO Good Will Ambassador has been awarded to 36 dignitaries around the world.
