Foreign Vice-Minister Pranevičius with the Ambassador of Japan: as the geopolitical situation changes, we must maintain close ties with like-minded countries

On 5 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Julius Pranevičius met with the new Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania Shinsuke Shimizu.

The meeting focused on Lithuania's and Japan's strategic partnership, bilateral and multilateral cooperation plans, and the situation in the international arena.

“In the world's rapidly changing geopolitical situation, as Ukraine continues to fight against Russia, which has launched an unprovoked war, we appreciate Japan’s support for Ukraine. Japan's voice as a G7 country is of paramount importance. We need to increase our support and strive for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” Pranevičius said.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming fifth political consultations of the Foreign Ministries of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Japan, which will take place in Vilnius on 12 March.
