Foreign Vice-Minister Mitkus: Lithuania and Ireland are bound together by a common understanding of threats, ever strengthening economic ties, and a large Lithuanian diaspora in Ireland

On 14 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Sigitas Mitkus, met with the Irish Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Niamh Smyth. The meeting focused on bilateral political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Ireland, preparations for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the development of artificial intelligence, and the digital agenda.

Mitkus believes Ireland is an important and reliable partner of Lithuania. Our economic ties are growing ever stronger. According to the Foreign Vice-Minister, Lithuania sees great untapped potential for cooperating with Ireland on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, open data, and digital innovation.

“Lithuania and Ireland are bound together by a common understanding of threats, continuously growing economic ties, and a large Lithuanian diaspora in Ireland. We appreciate the ever-intensifying political and cultural relations between our countries and welcome the good results of our cooperation in innovative economic areas,” said Mitkus.

The Foreign Vice-Minister and his Irish counterpart also discussed the issues of the Lithuanian diaspora living in Ireland and congratulated the Minister of State and all the Irish on the upcoming national holiday, St. Patrick's Day.
