Foreign Vice-Minister Grigaitė-Daugirdė held meetings with the incoming Ambassadors of Brazil, the UAE, and Qatar to Lithuania
On 18 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė met with the Ambassador of Brazil to Lithuania Leonardo Luís Gorgulho Nogueira Fernandes, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Noura Mohammed Abdul Hamid Juma, and the Ambassador of Qatar Saoud bin Abdullah Zaid Al-Mahmoud.
Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister congratulated Brazil on the upcoming COP30 conference in the city of Belém this year, expressing hope that this United Nations Climate Change Conference would be successful and contribute to effective solutions to climate change.
The meeting addressed the Russia’s war against Ukraine and the threats it posed to regional security. The Vice-Minister identified the main goal of the international community - a lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine, following the principles of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter. She expressed appreciation for Brazil's efforts to promote peace initiatives but stressed that Russia was an aggressor and therefore the most important task was to stop its illegal actions.
During the meeting with the UAE Ambassador, Vice-Minister Grigaitė-Daugirdė welcomed the strengthening of bilateral relations and discussed their further development. The Vice-Minister highlighted the potential of high-tech, life sciences, and food industries. She expressed the expectation that additional direct flights between Vilnius and Dubai would be launched shortly. Speaking about Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Vice-Minister stressed the need to seek justice and accountability for Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine. Grigaitė-Daugirdė also thanked the UAE for its humanitarian assistance and active mediation efforts in exchanging prisoners of war and called for continuation of this support.
During the meeting with the Ambassador of Qatar, the Vice-Minister thanked Qatar for its support to Ukraine, welcomed the signing of the Joint Communiqué on a Peace Framework, and underlined Qatar's important role in the return of Ukrainian children forcibly taken from Ukraine by Russia. Vice-Minister Grigaitė-Daugirdė noted that Qatar’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council during the period of 2025-2027 could contribute to strengthening the protection of children’s rights internationally. They also discussed possibilities to strengthen the bilateral economic partnership, with a particular focus on the cybersecurity, food industry, and energy sectors.
The Embassy of Brazil accredited to Lithuania is located in Copenhagen. The Embassy of the UAE to Lithuania is in Riga and the Embassy of Qatar to Lithuania is in Warsaw.
Lithuania established its diplomatic relations with Brazil in 1931 (re-established in 1991), and with the UAE and Qatar in 1992.
