Foreign Vice-Minister Germanas receives delegation from Kuwait
On 2 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas met with members of a delegation of the Kuwaiti Parliamentary Friendship Group with Lithuania.
The head of the delegation, Shueib Shabab Al-Muweizri, welcomed cooperation between the two countries, their mutual support at the United Nations Security Council election, and requested Lithuania to support the introduction of visa-free travel to the EU for the citizens of Kuwait.
The Vice-Minister also called on Kuwait to open its embassy in Vilnius and reiterated an invitation for Kuwait’s Foreign Minister to visit Lithuania.
The participants of the meeting identified potential areas for economic cooperation . The interlocutors agreed to seek to deepen economic cooperation and to organize visits of business delegations. Representatives from Kuwait took particular interest in cooperation between universities and student exchange.
The Kuwaiti delegation also visited the mosque in Kaunas, met with the Kaunas City Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis, the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) Irena Degutienė, members of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Vice-Rector for Studies of Vilnius University, Dr Valdas Jaskūnas.
Lithuania and Kuwait established their diplomatic relations on 5 April 1994. The Embassy of Kuwait in Berlin is accredited to Lithuania.
