FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING SLOVENIAN AMBASSADOR

On 11 September, Lithuanian Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Jaroslav Neverovič met with outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Lithuania Rudolf Gabrovec. During the meeting, Vice-minister thanked the Ambassador for his valuable input into the development of bilateral Lithuanian-Slovenian political, economic and cultural relations, and discussed perspectives of further cooperation.

J.Neverovič and R.Gabrovec also discussed the results of the Slovenian EU Presidency, the EU-Russia relations and situation in Georgia.

Ambassador was glad that during his tenure the first visit to Lithuania of Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša took place, that Lithuanian opened its diplomatic mission in Ljubljana in 2007, and that indicators of bilateral economic cooperation were improving steadily.

R.Gabrovec expressed trust that in the nearest future the Government of Slovenia would make a decision to open a diplomatic representation in Vilnius, which would boost the development of bilateral political, economic and cultural relations even more.

After the meeting with the Vice-minister, Slovenian Ambassador met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deividas Matulionis.

Slovenian Ambassador R.Gabrovec, who is residing in Copenhagen, has been accredited to Lithuania since 2005.

Slovenia recognised Lithuania on 3 September 1991 and diplomatic relations were established on 22 November 1991.
