Foreign Vice-Minister Andrius Krivas underlines the importance of the new post-2015 development agenda

At the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Development) on 26 May in Brussels, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas underlined the importance of the new post-2015 development agenda and its implementation aiming at poverty eradication and sustainable development.

The agenda builds on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to shift the world onto a path of development.

“The success of the new post-2015 development agenda will depend on how efficiently we are able to identify and mobilize all available implementation measures, to improve the efficiency of assistance and to ensure the implementation of commitments,” stressed Krivas.

Taking into account the significance of the current situation in the field of migration, the Foreign Ministers discussed on how development cooperation could contribute to the solution of migration challenges. According to Vice-Minister Krivas, all available instruments must be deployed, including development cooperation and visa policy in order to strengthen the willingness of the third countries to cooperate with the EU in organising the return of illegal immigrants.

“One of the priorities for development cooperation in the field of migration should be to encourage returnees’ to return to their country of origin and their reintegration processes,” said Krivas.
