FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES DISCUSSED AT THE CONFERENCE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF LITHUANIAN AND POLISH NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS AND DIPLOMATS
On 23-24 November in Ryn, Poland, a conference of representatives of Lithuanian and Polish nongovernmental organisations and diplomats was held.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, representatives from the president’s offices of both countries, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and academic institutions, independent analysts and experts took part in the conference.
During the conference, cooperation possibilities of both countries in the European Union and the NATO were analysed. Means of potentially even more productive participation of Lithuania and Poland in the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood policy were discussed.
Other issues of international relations that are important for both countries were discussed as well: the development of relations between the EU and Belarus, perspectives of cooperation between Russia and the EU, relations of NATO and EU with Ukraine, the role of the U.S.A. in the region of Eastern and Central Europe, etc.
The event was organised by the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University and the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
Such an exhaustive bilateral consultation on the issues of foreign policy was held for the first time.
