FOREIGN MINISTRY’S COMMENT ON THE E3+3 TALKS WITH IRAN ABOUT ITS NUCLEAR PROGRAMME

Lithuania evaluates positively the meeting of the E3+3 countries (France, Germany the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and China) with Iran on 26-27 February in Almaty.

Lithuania fully supports the efforts of the E3+3 countries to achieve a long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. It should restore international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and respect Iran’s rights to develop nuclear energy for peaceful uses.

Lithuania welcomes the efforts of Catherine Ashton, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and once again stresses the importance of close cooperation among the E3+3 countries. Lithuania has consistently supported the European Union’s commitment to its dual-track strategy — negotiations and sanctions - to address Iran’s nuclear program.

The next meeting of the E3+3 countries with Iran will be held on 5-6 April 2013 in Almaty.
