FOREIGN MINISTRY UNDERSECRETARY IN CANADA

On 4-5 October in Toronto the delegation led by Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Dalius Čekuolis discussed with Canadian foreign policy and migration officials the cooperation in international organizations and bilateral relations issues.

In the meetings with Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister Jonathan Fried and Assistant Deputy Ministers Jim Wright and David Mulroney the parties exchanged opinions on NATO reform, cooperation in NATO-led operations in Afghanistan, the EU enlargement, topicalities and perspectives of bilateral cooperation.

Canadian officials took a favourable view of Lithuania’s input and activity in the Eastern Europe, possibilities of further cooperation in regional democratisation processes were discussed.

During the meeting with Assistant Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Janeta Siddal the possibility to accelerate the taking of Canada’s decision to cancel the visa regime for Lithuanian citizens was talked over. Both parties agreed that expert consultations on this issue should be held in the nearest time.
