Foreign Ministry summons Italian Ambassador, expresses concern over V.Kotlerov extradition case

On 3 December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned Italian Ambassador to Lithuania Stefano Maria Taliani De Marchio. Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas expressed the concern over the Milan Court of Appeal decision to not to continue hearing the extradition case of January 13th suspect V.Kotlerov.

N.Germanas stressed that Lithuania, complying with all international laws, had passed the extradition request to Italy and was ready to provide any additional information and explanations related to this grave case.

The Vice-Minister also expressed concern about the fact that responsible Italian authorities had failed to ensure the availability of the suspect to responsible Italian authorities during the process of the ongoing case.

The Vice-Minister requested the Ambassador to explain the circumstances of the case, and to explain the Court’s decision.

Criminal proceedings in respect of V.Kotlerov will continue and the international search warrant shall remain valid.
