FOREIGN MINISTERS OF LITHUANIA AND IRISH CHARMASHIP OF THE OSCE DISCUSS PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN GEORGIA
On 5 October, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Audronius Ažubalis had a telephone conversation with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore to discuss parliamentary elections, which took place in Georgia this week.
The Minister congratulated the Irish Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on the successful election observation mission, which ensured that the elections ran smoothly and met democratic standards. Lithuanian observers also actively participated in this and other election observation missions.
Ažubalis stressed that the OSCE should help to consolidate the results of free and democratic elections in Georgia in the processes of vote counting and formation of the new Parliament while Ireland and Lithuania, as forthcoming EU presidencies, would continue to support the country’s aspirations of European integration.
