FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMES RATIFICATION OF EU ACCESSION TREATY IN LITHUANIAN PARLIAMENT

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis congratulated the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania on ratification of the Treaty of Accession of Lithuania and the other nine Central and Eastern European countries into the EU. According to the Minister, the ratification of the EU Accession Treaty by the Seimas is a very important step towards the implementation of one of the major strategic goals of the state – to become a member of the European Union. “The ratification of the EU Accession Treaty is a reflection of political, moral and cultural choice of our state and nation, which has taken ten years of independence to be implemented. It was achieved by joint efforts of all the political forces, all the governmental institutions and the diplomatic service. It also represents the will of the nation expressed in the referendum,” the Minister said.
