FOREIGN MINISTER TOOK PART IN THE GROUP OF NEW FRIENDS OF GEORGIA MEETING IN BUCHAREST

On 9 November Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis took part in the Group of New Friends of Georgia meeting in Bucharest, Romania.

The representatives of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia discussed assistance to Georgia in implementing NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan, possibilities of more active EU countries’ participation in the European Neighbourhood policy, considered prospects of regional cooperation, cooperation in field of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the members’ of the Group assistance in Georgia’s reforms implementation.

Minister Valionis welcomed the continuity of the Group of New Friends of Georgia meetings that are an opportunity to discuss specific Georgia’s needs and stimulate greater involvement of the European Union in such important areas as border protection.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister informed the participants of the meeting about the assistance in the border protection area that Lithuania provides and plans to provide within the framework of bilateral cooperation and about the possibilities to implement joint projects with other EU partners.

On 8 November Lithuanian Foreign Minister met with the new Foreign Minister of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili. The Ministers discussed Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration objectives, perspectives of European Neighbourhood policy, issues of bilateral and regional cooperation and Lithuania’s assistance in Georgia’s  reforms and European integration aspirations.
