FOREIGN MINISTER TO VISIT GERMANY AND AUSTRIA
On 25 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis leaves for Germany on a delegation led by President Valdas Adamkus.
In Germany meetings with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Horst Koehler, new President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert, Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Chancellor candidate Angela Merkel are scheduled. In the meetings it is planned to discuss bilateral relations, political topicalities of Europe and Baltic region, EU Eastern policy issues.
On 26-28 October Foreign Minister Valionis pays a visit to Austria.
The Minister is to deliver a speech in the European Organization’s for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Permanent Council meeting and review Lithuania’s position on consolidation of this organization and its role in election observation and conflict settlement. Also it is planned to confirm Lithuania’s wish to chair the OSCE in 2010 expressed last year.
In the meeting with OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut it is planned to consider the preparations for OSCE Ministerial Council in Ljubljana, strengthening of the Secretariat’s role and further activities in the OSCE area.
In Vienna Minister Valionis will also meet with Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ursula Plassnik, Austrian President Heinz Fischer. The participants of the meetings are to talk over bilateral relations, priorities of the forthcoming Austria’s Presidency, EU Financial Perspective, EU Constitution, and Lithuania’s Eastern policy priorities.
