FOREIGN MINISTER TO VISIT AFGHANISTAN AND CROATIA

On 11 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis in the delegation led by the President Valdas Adamkus left for two-day working visit to Afghanistan.

The delegation will visit Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team camp in Chagcharan where they will meet with representatives of Ghor province and Lithuanian soldiers.

A large consignment of medicaments will be delivered to Afghanistan. On the Foreign Ministry’s initiative a shipment of stationery and also gifts and congratulations from Vilnius St. Christofer’s secondary school is sent to the schools of Ghor province.

Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team pays special attention to impoverished health and education systems, collects information about local schools for possible cooperation with Lithuanian schools. The U.S. representatives in the Team are planning to fund the building of five new schools.

On 13-14 October Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis in Lithuanian President’s delegation will take part in the 12th Summit of the presidents of Central European states.

Minister Valionis will meet with the Foreign Minister of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. The ministers will discuss Lithuanian-Croatian bilateral cooperation, Croatia’s EU accession negotiations process, and the situation in the Western Balkans.
