FOREIGN MINISTER TO EXPRESS CONDOLENCES TO VATICAN SECRETARY FOR RELATIONS WITH STATES AND POLISH FOREIGN MINISTER

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis expressed condolences on death of Pope John Paul II to Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Adam Daniel Rotfeld underlining Pope’s merits to Lithuania.

In his letter to G. Lajolo the Minister conveyed condolences of Lithuania, its citizens, all believers and people of goodwill on the loss of Pope John Paul II.“The restoration of freedom and democracy in Lithuania and Central European states was much resulting from John Paul’s II efforts,” is written in A. Valionis’ letter.The minister stressed that the first ever Pope’s visit to Lithuania significantly fostered spread of human and democratic values in Lithuania.The minister also expressed profound sympathy in his letter to Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Adam Daniel Rotfeld on the death of the great son of Poland John Paul II.“Our nations will never forget Pope’s John Paul’s II support and belief in our aspirations for freedom,” the letter says.According to A. Valionis, Pope’s prophetic words said some years ago: “From Lublin Union to the European Union” now came true, expressing the age-old aspirations of the Christian nations.
