On 18 February, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis meeting with European Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hübner in Vilnius discussed the process of negotiations on the new EU financial perspective, the review of the Lisbon strategy.
The Minister and the European Commissioner also talked over infrastructure priorities in the Baltic Sea region, administration of the EU structural funds in Lithuania and other important EU issues.
A. Valionis noted that next EU financial perspective and EU budget should provide proper conditions for new EU members’ integration, continuity and financing of their accession obligations.
A. Valionis and D. Hübner exchanged opinions on review of the Lisbon strategy. It was underlined that the Lisbon strategy should provide preconditions and instruments for using scientific and other potential of all EU members including the less economically developed ones.
The Minister underlined that regarding the infrastructure priorities in the Baltic Sea region, Lithuania considers important such projects as the Rail Baltica, Lithuanian and Polish electricity bridge and new gas supply routes to Western Europe.
D. Hübner took a favourable view of the usage and administration of EU structural funds in Lithuania and underlined the importance of effective management and control of the EU structural funding.
