FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVES A LETTER FROM NATO SECRETARY GENERAL

On 26 March, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis received a letter from NATO Secretary General George Robertson in which the recent visit of the latter to Vilnius was recalled. "After two full MAP cycles, and many years of close NATO-Lithuania cooperation, there are few secrets left between us. In this crucial final stretch before the Prague Summit, now is the time for Lithuania to successfully implement the plans which we have discussed," the letter said. In the letter the NATO Secretary General expressed his satisfaction with growing public support in Lithuania for the country’s membership in the Northern Alliance. He also noted that he had enjoyed the informal part of the programme referring to “Lithuania’s evident brewing talents”.
