Foreign Minister pays tribute to Lithuania’s freedom fighters
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius laid a wreath at the March 11th Monument in Independence Square to mark the national observance of the Day of the Defenders of Freedom (January 13).
On 13 January, L.Linkevičius will also take part in a solemn commemoration of the Day of the Defenders of Freedom at the Seimas (Parliament), the state flag hoisting ceremony in Independence Square, the ceremony to honour the victims of the January 13th at Antakalnis cemetery, and the opening of the exhibition dedicated to winner of the 2014 Freedom Prize Adam Michnik at the Seimas.
On the same morning, employees of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry participated in the traditional civic campaign “Memory is Alive through Testimony”. Candles were lit on the window sills for ten minutes to honour Lithuania’s freedom fighters.
On 12 January, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister participated in the events of the Day of the Defenders of Freedom next to the Vilnius TV Tower, the building of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television and in Independence Square.
