FOREIGN MINISTER MET WITH SLOVAK PRESIDENT IN DRUSKININKAI

On 1 March in Druskininkai Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with the President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič, who paid a state visit to Lithuania. A. Valionis and I. Gašparovič discussed the perspectives of Lithuanian-Slovak relations after European Union and NATO enlargement, possibilities of closer cooperation between Central European and Baltic regions. Lithuanian Foreign Minister and Slovak President considered implementation of European Neighbourhood Policy in Eastern area, especially in Ukraine, which is going the way of democratic reforms and getting closer to Europe. During the conversation other topical issues of international policy were also talked over. This was the first visit of the President of Slovakia to Lithuania in the history of countries’ bilateral relations.
