Foreign Minister Landsbergis meets UAE Economy Minister: direct flights from Dubai to Vilnius are a meaningful continuation of bilateral diplomacy
Today, 17 January, in Davos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Bilateral relations between Lithuania and the UAE have been getting stronger over the past years. Direct flights from Dubai to Vilnius are a meaningful continuation of diplomatic cooperation, but there is still room to expand our cooperation. The establishment of an office of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in Vilnius would make a significant contribution to the further development of economic relations,” said Landsbergis at the World Economic Forum. The Foreign Minister also conveyed an invitation to visit Lithuania with a business delegation to the UAE Minister of Economy.
The Head of Lithuanian diplomacy thanked the UAE for its vote in support of Ukraine at the United Nations and for its support for a rules-based international order, which is currently facing particular challenges.
In 2022, Lithuania’s exports to the UAE totalled EUR 163 million, dominant product – advanced high-tech engineering goods. There has been a rapid growth in Lithuanian exports to the UAE – by almost 140% compared to 2021.
The UAE investment in Lithuania has reached nearly EUR 100 million. Active cooperation in the fields of life sciences, finance and agriculture is taking place. The Lithuanian-UAE Business Council was established in 2023.
