Foreign Minister in New York: Lithuania supports Cuban people's aspirations to live in a free and democratic country
On 22 September in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys met with representatives of the Cuban diaspora to discuss the human rights situation in Cuba, the desire for democracy and the importance of international support for Cuban civil society.
"Lithuania's position on Cuba remains strong and we support the aspirations of the Cuban people to live in a free and democratic state, respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. We condemn the Cuban regime’s repression of its people and its support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,’ he said.
Budrys emphasized that Lithuania will continue to support Cuban human rights defenders and democratic movements, as well as actively mobilise international support for their activities.
