Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis meets the Nigerian Foreign Minister in Davos: “A progressively fractured world increases the threats to our security on all continents, and we can only overcome them by acting together”
On 18 January, in Davos, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
“A progressively fractured world increases the threats to our security on all continents, and we can only overcome them by acting together,” said Landsbergis at a meeting on the side-lines of the World Economic Forum.
The leaders of the Lithuanian and Nigerian diplomacy discussed the role of international organisations in ensuring respect for democracy and the need to strengthen European cooperation with the African continent.
“Lithuania has made an impressive leap in three decades, moving from a Soviet backwater of a planned economy to a progressive, digital economy that is a member not only of NATO and the EU, but also of the OECD, an organisation uniting the world’s most advanced economies. We appreciate Nigeria’s interest in our experience and are ready to share it,” commented Landsbergis after the meeting.
The ministers also discussed possible new areas for growing bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Nigeria.
In 2022, Lithuania’s exports to Nigeria totalled EUR 350 million – a third of the country’s total exports to the African continent. Grain is Lithuania’s main export, with over EUR 200 million worth of grain exported annually. Not only agricultural producers, but also the ICT sector is interested in developing its business relations with Nigeria. NRD Cyber Security, a Lithuanian company, has implemented two projects at the Central Bank of Nigeria – one to set up a financial sector cyber security centre, and the other to install a cyber security threat management system.
