Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis in Davos: “The West and the international community should be concerned not with Russia’s future, but with strengthening our own security and a swift victory in Ukraine”
Today, 18 January, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis spoke at the session “Russia: What Next?" at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“I hear ever louder concerns about Russia’s future, but Russia must resolve its own problems, whereas the West and the international community should be concerned with strengthening our own security and achieving a swift victory in Ukraine," said the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy at the World Economic Forum.
The session, attended by the European Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, also focused on sanctions against Russia.
“If we really believe in Ukraine’s victory and want to assist with it, we must not forget that the European Union is also a trading union, which for some reason has favourable trade agreements with autocratic regimes. Sanctions against Russia are certainly working, but we need to look for and find new instruments to rein in Russia,” Landsbergis noted.
A recording of the discussion is available at the World Economic Forum website.
