FOREIGN MINISTER COMMENDS EUROPEAN COMMISSION‘S PROPOSALS ON MULTI-ANNUAL BUDGET

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis gave a favourable evaluation to the recently published proposals by the European Commission on the European Union‘s (EU) Multi-Annual Budget ceiling of financing. The Minister stated that one of the most topical issues to Lithuania – the financing of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) closure – would receive attention through separate and additional financing in accordance with the Protocol to the Lithuania‘s Accession Agreement with the EU. „During the Dutch Presidency until the end of the year, we will be exchanging opinions on the Commission‘s proposals and with the view of Lithuanian interests we will start forming coalitions,“ Minister Valionis noted. The Chief of the Lithuanian Diplomacy observed that the first glimpses of a joint decision should come in view already at the beginning of the next year.
