FOREIGN DIPLOMATS WERE ACQUAINTED WITH THE PREPARATION FOR THE EUROPEAN MEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LITHUANIA AND WITH ITS AMBASSADOR A. SABONIS
On 22 October at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign diplomats were acquainted with the preparations for the European Men Basketball Championship in Lithuania in 2011. The official ambassador of the basketball championship Arvydas Sabonis was also introduced to them.
At the presentation, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis said that the upcoming championship was a very important event for Lithuania, where the European Basketball Championship was coming back after more than 70 years. The Minister called on the foreign diplomats to spread the word about this event in their own countries and to invite all the people, who want to come to the championship.According to head of the Schengen Division of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rimgaudas Lošys, Lithuania will make every effort to create as easy as possible visa issuance procedures for the participants of the championship and their fans.
During the presentation, guests were also acquainted with the preparatory works, infrastructure, and details of travel to Lithuania of the players of the championship and of their fans.
The presentation at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was attended by representatives from the Organizing Committee of the EuroBasket 2011, the Lithuanian State Department of Tourism, the Lithuanian Basketball Federation and FIBA Europe, which is the governing body for basketball in Europe of the International Basketball Federation.
