FOREIGN AMBASSADORS WILL GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE CULTURAL AND CULINARY HERITAGE OF AUKŠTAITIJA
On 8 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture are co-organizing a cognitive trip for heads of foreign diplomatic missions, who reside in Lithuania, to Aukštaitija (the Highlands).
Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis and Minister of Agriculture Kazys Starkevičius will also go on the trip, during which accredited to Lithuania foreign diplomats will be able to get familiarized with relevant issues related to Lithuania’s rural development and with agricultural issues in Širvintos and Anykščiai districts.At the Griciūnai goat farm in Širvintos district, the guests will be able to observe the production process of organic goat milk products.
In Anykščiai district, foreign diplomats will get a “Siaurukas” Narrow-Gauge Railway ride, which is the engineering heritage object of Aukštaitija. On the way from Troškūnai to Anykščiai, the Director of Aukštaitija Narrow Gauge Railway Gintaras Kerbedis and employees of the Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum in Anykščiai will tell the guests more interesting stories about “Siaurukas”. The educational programme “Anykščiai Wine Road” will follow.
At the Horse Museum in the village of Niūronys, Anykščiai district, the guests will visit the village’s homesteads, where they will be able to try out the ancient way of baking bread, decorate Easter eggs, learn more about Lithuanian crafts and enjoy a ride in horse-drawn carriages.
In the evening, the Ambassadors will have a dinner, during which they will be able to get acquainted with Lithuanian Easter traditions and will listen to folk music performed by the village’s folk music group.
Tours of foreign diplomats to the regions of Lithuania aim to demonstrate the development of Lithuania and to familiarize them with characteristics of the regions - their history, culture and culinary heritage - and to present business development opportunities, to promote more intensive cooperation between foreign partners and the regions of Lithuania.
