FLOODED WESTERN UKRAINE NEEDS HELP

Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine announced that from 23 through 26 July Western Ukraine suffered from excess rainfall and floods, due to this disaster at least 22 people perished, including 6 children. More than 40,000 houses were flooded in the regions of Ivan Frankovsk, Lvov, Zakarpattia, Ternopol, Chernivtsi.

About 34,000 hectares of farmland were flooded, 360 motoring and 561 pedestrian bridges, and 680.61 km of motoring roads were damaged. Under complicated weather conditions 2,758 people were rescued and 13,703 had to leave their homes.

Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine encourages municipalities, businessmen and people of good will to help the flood-struck Western Ukraine.

The damage caused by the floods was estimated at some billions of U.S. dollars. Specialists declare that this is the heaviest natural disaster that Western Ukraine has seen in at least 100 years.

Sufferers of the floods urgently need help: food, clothes, medications, tents, bedding, etc. Financial assistance is necessary as well.

Charity Foundation of Taras Shevchenko collects and coordinates charity for the sufferers of this natural disaster in Lithuania.
