EXHIBITION ON THE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND BULGARIA OPENS AT MFA

On 13 November, the exhibition of historical documents on the bilateral relations between Lithuania and Bulgaria was opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

Copies of documents of the period from 1921 to 1940 are on display, they were provided by the funds of the state archives of Lithuania and Bulgaria. These documents contain instructions of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the recognition of Lithuania and the return of the deportees to their homeland, memos and reports from the diplomatic representations of Lithuania and Bulgaria, reflecting the political issues in these countries and events in Europe during that period.

During the opening of the exhibition, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė reviewed the history of the relations, important issues of today and perspectives of cooperation between Lithuania and Bulgaria.

Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Lithuania Ivan Dantchev gave a welcome speech and professor Sergey Temchin, the chief scientific researcher at the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, spoke about the most important historical facts of Lithuania and Bulgaria.

Members of the Group for the Parliamentary Relations with the Republic of Bulgaria, representatives from the diplomatic corps and the academic community also took part in the opening of the exhibition.

The organisers of the exhibition are: Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bulgaria’s Embassy in Lithuania. In December 2009, the exhibition will be on display in Sofia.
