The exhibition “The World of Yesterday, the Hope of Today” was opened at the Lithuanian Embassy in Berlin on 20 October. The discussion on the Jewish life in Lithuania and the Holocaust took place during the event. The discussion was organized by the Embassy in Germany and the Center for Research on Anti-Semitism in Berlin.

The main speech was delivered by Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy at Vytautas Magnus University Šarūnas Liekis. Joachim Tauber, Director of the Institute for the Culture and History of Germans in North-East Europe of the University of Hamburg, made comments. The discussion was also attended by Director of the Center for Research on Anti-Semitism in Berlin Stefanie Schüler-Springorum.

The exhibition was organized by the current Lithuanian Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in cooperation with a Vienna-based NGO Centropa.

The exhibition aims to tell visitors about the Holocaust through personal life stories of Holocaust survivors. When preparing the materials for the exhibition, Centropa interviewed Jews who were born in Lithuania before the Second World War and collected many personal photos.

The exhibition runs at the Lithuanian Embassy in Berlin until mid-November.

The Center for Research on Anti-Semitism was established in 1982 in Berlin at the Technical University Berlin. Its experts conduct research focusing on anti-Semitism, Antiziganism, xenophobia and racism.
