EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE UN OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIME TO VISIT VILNIUS
On 27 September Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Antonio Maria Costa who pays a visit to Lithuania.
During the meeting such issues as the development of Lithuania and UNODC cooperation, regional cooperation possibilities, fighting against the spread of AIDS, illicit drugs and human trafficking and also Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team’s activities in Afghanistan were discussed.
“Fields of UNODC activities are important for Lithuania and the region. We are interested in using the possibilities offered by UNODC to increase cooperation in the region,” Antanas Valionis said in the meeting.
Antonio Maria Costa also met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas, the Minister of the Interior Gintaras Furmanavičius, and the Deputy Chairman of the Seimas Česlovas Juršėnas.
