EVALUATING PROGRESS OF ITS RELATIONS WITH OECD POSITIVELY, LITHUANIA HOPES TO BECOME MEMBER OF ORGANISATION – LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis met with Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Seiichi Kondo on 28 April 2003 in Paris. During the meeting, the Minister underscored that Lithuania had firmly decided to seek membership in the OECD and formally informed the head of the organisation of its readiness to become a full-fledged member of the bloc already in September 2002. According to Minister Valionis currently on a visit in Paris, the membership in the OECD is an important goal of the foreign policy, for which Lithuania is going to spare no efforts. In the Minister belief, the fast and steady growth of the Lithuanian economy, the country’s political stability and its future membership in the EU give good reasons to Lithuania’s aspirations of joining the OECD.
