EU’S COMMISSIONER FOR TRADE CONFIRMS HIS READINESS TO RESPOND TO RUSSIA’S POTENTIAL MEASURES AGAINST THE LITHUANIAN TRADE
On 23 October, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius received a letter from the EU’s Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht, repeatedly describing the European Commission’s actions in response to the restrictive measures recently imposed by Russia on Lithuanian vehicles.
In his letter, K.de Gucht stresses that the Commission is very concerned by these measures, both from an economic and a legal point of view.
The letter reads: “Such broad, trade-disruptive measures that would be disproportionate and not genuinely linked to objective specific risks would be questionable under WTO rules.”
The EU’s Commissioner ensures that the European Commission will remain vigilant so as to again react rapidly should similar events repeat themselves.
