EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT DISCUSSES RUSSIA’S RESTRICTIONS ON LITHUANIAN GOODS
On 8 October, the European Parliament discussed Russia’s discriminatory measures against Lithuanian carriers. European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht presented steps taken by the European Commission to address this issue.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vytautas Leškevičius stressed that Russia’s restrictive measures against Lithuanian carriers and goods created a challenge for the European Union and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“The Russian Federation has imposed restrictive measures against Lithuanian carriers and goods without any prior warning. The situation raises serious concerns about the compatibility of Russia’s measures with the World Trade Organisation rules,” the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister said on behalf of Lithuania.
V.Leškevičius underlined that the current situation could not be tolerated.
The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister thanked the European Parliament for discussing issues, which are important for Lithuania, an EU Member State, and for extending solidarity.
