EUROPEAN INTEGRATION STUDY CENTRE OPENS IN DONETSK
On 11 December, in Donetsk, Ukraine, Lithuanian ex-President Algirdas Brazauskas will open the second branch of European Integration Study Centre (EISC) in this country.
The branch in Donetsk will be the third office of European Integration Study Centre opened in neighbour countries. On 13 November, the first centre was opened in Lviv, and two weeks later the Moldovan-Lithuanian foundation “European Integration Study Centre” was launched.
European Integration Study Centre has gained considerable practical experience. It was founded in 1995 by the Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after Lithuania officially applied for the European Union membership on 8 December the same year.
The Centre has been carrying out scientific research, developing European identity and historic self-consciousness for twelve years already. It has actively contributed to Lithuania’s integration into the EU. Currently its main aim is to promote closer European integration and enlargement, emphasizing Eastern dimension of this process.
The branches of European Integration Study Centre in Ukraine and Moldova are being established at the joint initiative of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University, and financed by the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion programme funds of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
