EURO-ATLANTIC COOPERATION CENTRE FOR RESEARCH AND INFORMATION OPENS IN ODESSA
On 18 December, Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Centre for Research and Information was opened in Odessa (Ukraine) at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. The new centre was launched at the South-Ukrainian State Pedagogical K.D.Ushinsky University.
The mission of the Centre is to disseminate reliable information on the North Atlantic Alliance and cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in the region, as well as to promote open discussions on security policy issues of Ukraine.
Already on 19 December, the Centre is organising a student discussion “Why would youth approve or disapprove of Ukraine’s membership in the NATO?”
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania on the North Atlantic Council Linas Linkevičius took part in the ceremony of opening of the Centre. Ambassador L.Linkevičius encouraged representatives from the self-government of Odessa, academic community, media and public organisations to avoid any prejudices and to be open to a lively dialogue as well as to a different opinion.
Lithuania consistently supports Ukraine’s choice of Euro-Atlantic integration. Ukraine’s public opinion is a factor of particular significance for the success of this integration. The new Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Centre for Research and Information is a concrete input of Lithuania into Ukraine’s success of Euro-Atlantic integration and a great example of Lithuania’s long term effort to inform the general public.
